SEG Fabric Frames Explained

Non-illuminated SEG fabric frame with a branded graphic, shown pulled back from the silver aluminium frame

SEG fabric frames are a flexible display system used in retail, commercial interiors, offices, healthcare, hospitality and events.

SEG stands for Silicone Edge Graphic. The printed fabric graphic has a thin silicone strip sewn around its perimeter, which is pushed into a channel in an aluminum frame. Once installed, the fabric is held under tension to create a smooth, edge-to-edge graphic with very little visible frame.

For sign shops and print providers the appeal for your customers is simple: the frame stays in place while the graphic can be changed whenever the message changes.

How SEG fabric frames work

The aluminum frame is assembled to the required size and configuration. The fabric graphic is then inserted into the frame channel, starting at the corners and working around the perimeter.

Because the fabric is tensioned into the frame, the finished display has a clean, almost frameless appearance.

SEG systems can be made in a wide range of sizes and configurations, including:

  • wall-mounted frames
  • freestanding displays
  • suspended frames
  • single-sided systems
  • double-sided systems
  • illuminated lightboxes
  • non-illuminated fabric frames

This makes SEG suitable for everything from a small promotional display to a large-format branded wall.

Why use SEG instead of a rigid graphic?

Traditional rigid graphics can work very well, but they become more difficult to handle as display sizes increase.

Fabric graphics are lightweight, easier to ship, and much simpler to replace than large rigid panels.

For retailers and other businesses that update campaigns regularly, that can be a major advantage. A new graphic can be produced and shipped without replacing the aluminum frame.

A clean, finished look

One of the main reasons SEG has become popular in commercial interiors is its appearance.

Because the fabric is tensioned into the frame, SEG creates a smooth, edge-to-edge graphic surface with very little visible hardware.

That makes it well suited to environments where the display needs to feel integrated into the space rather than added on afterward.

The matte fabric surface also helps reduce reflections under overhead lighting, which can be especially useful in retail and commercial spaces with bright or variable lighting conditions.

Illuminated or non-illuminated?

SEG frames can be either illuminated or non-illuminated.

A non-illuminated frame provides a matte fabric display with no power requirement. These work well for branding, lifestyle imagery, promotional messages and areas where a softer visual presence is appropriate.

An SEG lightbox uses internal LEDs to illuminate a specially printed backlit fabric graphic. This creates a brighter focal point while maintaining the same clean, edge-to-edge appearance.

The right choice depends on the environment and what the display needs to achieve.

Easy graphic changes

Perhaps the biggest advantage of SEG is how easy it is to update.

The existing fabric graphic is removed from the frame and a new one is inserted into the same channel.

That means a retailer can change a seasonal campaign, a company can refresh office branding, or a sign shop can provide a replacement graphic without replacing the entire display system.

It is a simple idea, but it is what makes SEG particularly useful for environments where messaging changes over time.

SEG systems from Manifest Displays

Manifest Displays supplies SEG fabric frames, lightboxes, and replacement graphics in custom sizes for trade partners and commercial customers.

Systems are available in wall-mounted, freestanding, suspended, single-sided, and double-sided configurations, with a range of frame depths and finishes depending on the application.

Whether the project is a single frame or a larger rollout, the principle remains the same:

Install the frame once. Change the graphic when the message changes.
